June has always been wedding month although the summer seems to be full of wedding showers, parties and other events all celebrating these happy occasions.

Grilling is a great way to cook with little or no fat. And, you can do chicken breasts, fish and lots of vegetables. But, lots of newlyweds live in condos or apartments and can’t use a barbecue. So, in place of the barbecue, buy them a good non-stick grill pan that can be used indoors all year round.
A few new brides told me they love their hand-held immersion blenders, especially for making healthy soups. They are easy to use and don’t take up much storage space. Along with the blender, you can send a few recipes for soups, sauces or even blended drinks.
A yogurt strainer is a little gadget that you can use to make yogurt cheese which is thick and creamy and a great base for spreads and dips. Yogurt cheese can be low fat and is lactose free. Put together the makings of a healthy salad. Buy a pretty ceramic bowl, some salad tongs, a bottle or two of olive oil, some flavoured vinegars, a vegetable brush and peeler, and a few of your favourite salad recipes.
Slow cookers are making a comeback and this could be a really terrific present for a time-stretched couple who want a healthy hot meal when they get home from work. It’s one more way they will be able to have extra servings of some healthy root vegetables in a flavourful way.
Every cook should have a good set of knives — for cutting fresh fruits and vegetables, for trimming and thinly slicing meat and chicken. Good knives can be more pricey, but they last a long time and are important in a healthy kitchen.
